Fun With Science

We have been studying the human body for the first part of the school year. Our texts are The Body Book, First Encyclopedia of the Human Body, and The Human Body for Every Kid. This past week we studied the heart and cardiovascular system. The Body Book has been a hit with us! It is a book of models that are constructed with paper -- a really neat way to learn!

Our study of the human body has given us a sense of wonder and awe for our Creator. Our bodies are amazing machines! Yet they are fragile and we depend upon our God for our every breath and heart beat.

Breakfast Bars

Yesterday I baked a pan of these breakfast bars for us. The house had that cozy, warm smell while they were baking. They are SO good and good for you!

Breakfast Bars

(pre-heat oven to 350)

1 cup butter
1/2 cup dark molasses
1/2 cup packed brown sugar (you can use less)
4 eggs
2 cups flour
1 cup raw wheat germ
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup raisins (I used chopped up figs)
1 cup finely chopped walnuts or other nuts

Cream butter until fluffy. Beat in molasses and sugar; stir in eggs; mix in remaining ingredients.
Spread mixture evenly into greased 9x13 pan. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool before cutting.
